40’s in Shorts

This what they say and has been questioned by many including me. Never wear anything above the knees or even more, cover your knees when you are in your 40‘s. But isn’t it that this is the age when you are more confident to pull together a shorter outfit and when the scars of childhood has been erased by the years? I’ve seen many photos of my 40-something friends wearing shorts and mini skirts. They look beautiful. But of course, some rules apply to this.
First, balance skin exposure. When the dress gets above the knees, it should be covered on the top. When it's sleeveless on top, the length should be under the knees. A sleeveless shirt goes well with long denims and shorts with a sleeved shirt. Of course, rules can be broken at times. Go short, go sleeveless with a dress for those special occasions. But check the cut and the mirror twice, thrice and for the fourth time too. I mentioned the cut because this is where it actually gets tricky. But I think you totally understand what I mean. The occasion is important too because a night out short dress doesn’t really work when you are presenting a paper at a conference. So again, this is when the mirror applies and the honest friend who you have to endure the criticism once more.
