The Fortune Cookie

Ah, yes! I’m not wearing eyeglasses yet, I look young for my age and I have young friends. :) But I do remember that time in a coffee house at Suvarnabhumi airport.
Wearing my skinny jeans, sleeveless shirt and flat sandals, I was madly people watching. My friend who was very patient with me, sat there listening to my silly talks of who among these people passing us by are my age, how I should dress up according to my age and give up my jeans. My friend knew there and then that I was having the drama day of midlife.
The questions in my mind at that time were, am I dressing according to my age? Are my clothes too young for my age? Or are they actually too old? I doubt the latter. :) But really what makes a person look old?
The first thing that I think makes people old is when they try so hard to look young. Cakey foundation and too much make up could just reveal more wrinkles. Avoid those overly decorated jeans and don’t dress down everything in beige, grey, black, blue and brown. It doesn't hurt to have a pink bag, purple shoes, red belt and all those colourful scarves. Just don't wear them all at the same time. :) And one very important thing is shoes. The right shoes are very important. When buying shoes, don’t just look for the right size and comfort as some shoes can make your feet look more beautiful than others.
Do you know what they mean when they say, the older the shorter? Don’t waste long hair by chopping it way too short. Of course, dry hair and dry skin is a part of being old. So put on some lotion and don't stray too far from your original hair colour. Also remember that polished and coloured nails makes younger looking hands.
And lastly, people make themselves old by thinking and feeling old, accompanied by letting go of oneself. So don’t eat whatever, dress whatever and bury the mirror.
